The Legend of The Turban
The Legend of the Tassel Turban
Once upon a time in the sparkly chaos of Los Angeles, amidst swirling silks and kaftan-cutting sessions, the Tasselled Turban was born. One day at the cutting table, surrounded by vibrant fabric remnants from our kaftans, I had an epiphany. I hate waste of any kind, which is why we operate as a zero-fabric-waste company—donating all fabric scraps to low-income schools for art projects. That day, I decided to make a matching cowl scarf for a kaftan… and something magical happened.

A Happy Accident, A Fashion Destiny
That first turban was a moment of pure style-meets-serendipity. As a former stylist, I grabbed one of those scarves, twisted it around my head and—BAM. After years of struggling to find a turban that worked, I couldn’t believe something so simple could feel so right.
Surely, there's a life lesson in that.
From there, I refined the design for full hair coverage and started experimenting with fabrics and colour stories. Soon after, we were picked up by the likes of Harrods, Moda Operandi, Matches, Anthropologie, and more.

Why Turbans?
My obsession began with the icons of Old Hollywood—Elizabeth Taylor, reclining like a goddess in her jewels and kaftans, and the ever-effervescent Carmen Miranda, turning turbans into technicolour celebrations. These women didn’t wear turbans as accessories; they wore them as declarations.
Before I was designing, I was styling. I lived for transformation. And nothing, nothing, turned heads like a turban.
One twist, one tuck, and suddenly: confidence, mystery, presence.
From haystack to goddess in moments.
Just add a bold lip and oversized sunglasses. You have arrived.
Our turbans pay homage to that legacy—with a little extra flair, thanks to our signature Turban Tassels.
A Little History, A Lot of Magic
The turban’s roots go far deeper than our studio. Worn by kings, warriors, mystics, and icons, it holds significance across cultures:
-
In Sikhism, the turban (dastaar) symbolises strength, spirituality, and self-respect.
-
In North Africa and the Middle East, it’s a tool of protection and a marker of tradition.
-
In India, colour and styling reflect region, caste, or celebration.
-
In the 1920s, it became a Western fashion staple for silver-screen sirens.
-
In the 1970s, it hit disco fever—think Studio 54, gold lamé, and gloss.
Our designs blend this rich history with modern-day glamour—always with reverence, always with joy.
